Episode 3 - Bristol Schools

Episode 3 saw us pair up again, this time heading to Portishead in Bristol to a high school with common rooms in desperate need of transformation! Dean and I were partnered up for what would become an unforgettable design - and my first win of the series!!

The brief was to create an amazing common room that could be used for kids between 11-16. Something that incorporated their house name - Biscay Bears - and their house colour - Red. And secondly, a teacher’s room that could be used by the house staff to see students and parents. Immediately I thought it would be fun to make it varsity themed. A friend said she loved the mural at her school when she was younger so we landed on graffiti pieces to pull through the house identity and update their logo and mascot. I roped in my husband’s friend to create custom graffiti panels and we were on our way to an iconic common room design!

So many great builds and elements went into this design from the OSB seating pods and red window vinyls to the custom varsity logo jackets and gender considerate bathroom signs. We wanted it to feel modern and personal whilst remaining a vibrant area for teenagers to have fun!

For the teacher’s room, we wanted to make it somewhere inviting and functional. It needed to be somewhere the teachers could speak to students and parents alike. We carried through the varsity theme into this room and I created another custom print for wallpaper to elevate the space.

Clever storage, fun elements, flexible spaces and new work areas took us across the line for the win. I felt a real sense of achievement this week, I was so proud of the design and was beginning to build some confidence! Images below of the finished space!
