Wallpaper Ways
After seeing the fun, foil wallpaper murals used in the The Ivy Chelsea Garden powder room last week, it got me thinking - how can we make our rolls go further?!
There’s lots of great ways to use wallpaper - not just on a plain wall. Stretch and conserve it, use it inside drawers, on the side of drawers to add detail when they open. Use it on desk or side table tops, under glass, to add a bit of interest. Use it in the backs of bookshelves, wardrobes or drinks cabinets. Use it on the front of an upcycled piece of furniture. Heck - if there’s an expensive roll you love - go halvers with a friend and get creative on where you both use it! Most rolls are 10m long, and go farther than you think.
See my ideas below for where to put that gorgeous new roll!
Below The Belt
Only paper the bottom half of your wall. Half the calories, so you can eat twice as much.
Tradition
An old favourite. Paper only the main section of the wall. Paint the wood work and lower wall section a complimentary or contrasting colour.
Do Look Up
Paper that ceiling!! Putting wallpaper on the ceiling rather than the walls can completely transform the room. The ceiling is often the smallest surface area and therefore the cheapest to cover.
Decorative Panels
Make your wallpaper go much further by only choosing sections to frame using cane or decorative beading.
Hall Of Fame
In high traffic areas, like hallways, paper the top half of your walls and clad the bottom half in tongue & groove or simple painted mdf panels.
In The Frame
Use wallpaper as the backdrop for some interesting lighting, vintage wall sconces or candelabras.
Mix It Up
Wallpaper doesn’t always have to be paired with perfectly painted woodwork! Timber panels that and sanded or stained can give a more natural, relaxed look.
Powder Room
Do cover your tiny downstairs loo in a bold print! It’s likely you’ll only need 1 roll and it will give the biggest transformation!
Support Act
If you already have a paper you love, consider using it behind a painting or as the backdrop to a photo wall. Maximise the impact by ensuring the colours work together in a complimentary or contrasting way.
Fold Away
If papering your walls seems too much of a jump from your natural style, then try papering a fold away screen. It’s a great test to see how you feel about print and pattern.
